Nkoro People Appeal To Amaechi Over Chairmanship
The people of Nkoro in Opobo/Nkoro local government area have appealed to Governor Rotimi Amaechi to redeem his promise of ensuring that the chairmanship position of the council gets to Nkoro clan before the end of his tenure.
In an interview, some concerned citizens from both Opobo and Nkoro communities reminded the state governor of his pledge during a Town Hall meeting in Nkoro that he would ensure that the Nkoros will no longer be marginalised in the politics of the area.
Elder Wilson Tamuno and Tamuno-Para Ngeve representing Nkoro clan explained that since the creation of the local government area in 1996, the Nkoro people have no produced the council’s chairman.
According to them since over 15 years, there are no count projects sited in Nkoro, while none of the indigenes have been appointed a commissioner, special/senior adviser to the governor or chairman of board.
They described such marginalisation is so glaring and ridiculous, and wondered why Nkoro with large population can be so sidelined till date.
The Nkoros, they affirmed were indeed happy that Hon Dakuku Petrside an Opobo man won the PDP’S House of Representatives ticket and therefore advocated that Nkoro should produce the council chairman rather than state House of Assembly slot.
Similarly, Senibo Tamuno Bell-Gam and Juliana Jaja alleged that the last three years of the out-going administration in the area had nothing tanqible to show for the huge allocations that the council received within the period under review.
Senibo Bell-gam urged the Amaechi-led administration to correct the imbalance inherent in the system by ensuring that Nkoro produce the next council chairman to give the Nkoros a sense of belonging in the scheme of things.
