Don Lists Path To National Dev
A retired university don, Professor Somayina Gabriel Nwoko has affirmed that peaceful co-existence among Nigerians is the only panacea for national development.
Prof. Nwoko, facilitator of the New World Movement, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), and retired Professor of Agric-Economics at the University of Ibadan, stated this during the formal launching of his book titled, “The Peace Worker” at the NLC, Labour House, in Asaba.
He urged leaders at all levels to make peace paramount in their policy initiatives, adding that efforts should be made by all individuals, groups, institutions and tiers of government to abolish war, hatred, insecurity and terrorism.
Prof. Nwoko, a self acclaimed peace messenger, stated that the recent amnesty offer to militants, especially in the oil and gas rich Niger Delta region, by the Federal Government had helped in redeeming Nigeria’s international image and in the restoration of national harmony.
Although Nwoko lamented that the amnesty programme had doused the hitherto orchestrated political and economic clamour for resource control and sovereign national conference, he posited that the peace from God and unity that follows will create a world free of wars.
“I am praying for peace to fully be restored to the region.
