Lagos Still Witnesses Low Business Activities After Yuletide
Business activities in Lagos were still very low on Tuesday as work commenced in public and private offices, after the New Year holiday.
Our correspondent reports that in Lagos metropolis some shops were still locked up while traffic was a little light in some areas.
Mr. Chinedu Obi, a businessman at Marina, said that many Lagosians who traveled home for the yuletide have yet to return.
“Business activities are expected to remain this way until people are back from their journeys”, he said.
Mr. Ayomide Adebayo, the Branch Manager, Sweet Sensation, Marina, said that sales have been very low, adding that their regular customers have not returned.
“We are prepared for a situation like this because the first working day after the festival season is always life this”, he said.
Adebayo said that sales would bounce back by next week when those who traveled would have returned.
Also speaking, Mrs. Funke Oshodi, a businesswoman at Mushin, said that business activities were still very dull, adding that this was due to the holidays.
“Sales are really bad now because most of our customers have yet to come back to Lagos and by the time they are back, things will turn around positively”, he said.
In his comment, a staff of First Bank of Nigeria Plc, Marina Branch, who pleaded anonymity, said that the turnout of customers was still very low.
“Actually, it is normal for customers to be fewer now, because majority of them have traveled and have yet to come back”, he said.
Also, Mr. John Ogunleye, a staff member of Wema Bank Plc, Marina, said that the turnout of customers was still low, saying that it would improve with time.
“We will start experiencing a good turnout as soon as people return from their holidays, definitely, it will not remain like this, it is just for the time being”, he said.
