Edo Waste Managers Embark On Operation Keep Benin Clean
The Edo Waste Management Board in collaboration with private waste managers in the state last Monday embarked on an Operation Keep Benin City Clean.
The board’s General Manager, Mr Charles Imariagbe told newsmen in Benin that the exercise was a directive given by the Acting Governor, Mr Philip Shaibu, to keep the city clean.
Imariagbe said that the exercise was also to create awareness in citizens on the need to always keep the environment clean to preserve its aesthetics.
‘‘Today, we are giving life to the directive of the acting governor, Hon. Phillip Shaibu, that the entire city must be clean.
‘‘It is a joint exercise; we are working with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainability, Ministry of Urban and Physical Planning, and the State Public Works Volunteers on this call to action.
‘‘We have up to 100 trucks being used for the cleanup.
‘‘We have resolved that every street in Benin City must be clean and all waste must be taken to the dump site,’’ he said.
He said that the exercise would be sustained through continuous monitoring and evaluation processes, and urged residents to desist from indiscriminate waste disposal.
The general manager also called on the people to channel all complaints about waste managers to the board for prompt action.
One of the waste managers, Mr Emmanuel Iriogbe, who participated in the exercise, commended the government for the directive to scale up their operations in the state.
