Police Nab Osiskankwu’s Deputy
Abia State Police command has arrested one Chukwuma Ajakpe (a.k.a Baruwa) said to be the second-in-command to the dreaded kidnap kingpin, Obioma Nwankwo (a.k.a Osisikankwu).
Abia State Acting Police Commissioner, Kings Omire, who disclosed the arrest of Baruwa to newsmen Friday, said he was nabbed at his hideout near the commercial city of Aba.
“Chukwma Ajakpe (a.k.a Baruwa) of no fixed address is now in Police net. This man in question was the second-in-command to the late Osisikankwu. He is in the custody of Abia State Police command. He is being interrogated by our Detectives,” Omire said.
The Acting Police Commissioner said the command was also reaching out to the Military to see if they have any information about the suspect which may not be at the disposal of the Police. He assured that the outcome of his interrogation would be made public.
It would be recalled that Osisikankwu was on Sunday, December 12, gunned down by the Joint Military Task Force drafted to Abia to end the reign of kidnappers who held the state by the jugular.
Meanwhile, the Police says it has mapped out strategies to ensure crime-free Christmas and New Year celebrations in the state. Omire said the strategy was grassroots-oriented, adding that all Divisional Police Officers and their Mobile Police counterparts have been properly briefed and mobilised.
He said following the implementation of the strategy, many suspects who wanted to make quick money for Christmas as well as those who attempted to break into several homes have been arrested.
He also stressed that the command has zero tolerance for corruption and enjoined the public to report to his office any Policeman involved in unethical behaviours.
