Edo PDP Canvasses Conduct Of All Elections Same Day
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Edo chapter, has called on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct all future elections across the country on the same day.
Edo State Chairman of PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, made the call last Monday in Benin, while briefing newsmen on outcome of the governorship and State Assembly elections held across the country last Saturday.
According to him, arising from the development of Saturday’s elections there is need for the National Assembly to revisit the Electoral Bill.
“This is to enable the NASS make it mandatory for all elections to be conducted on the same day.
“If three ballot papers can be used in one day, five can also be used,” he said.
Orbih noted also that from the development of recent polls conducted in the country, democracy was seriously under threat and there was the need for the processes to be checked.
He alleged that the APC Government was taking the nation back in electoral processes.
The Chairman stressed that nowhere in the world did democracy use military to determine who represented the people, and also stressed that it was time for Nigerians to speak out and reject the use of military.
He lamented that it were sad that more lives was lost on election days in the country than when the country was at war.
Orbih, who congratulated the Edo people for the peaceful conduct of the polls in the state, said that there was need for party members to be committed in protecting democracy by checking the excesses of stakeholders.
“All Democrats must ensure that democracy is preserved in the country,” he said.
According to him, on the State Assembly elections, the party could conclude that there were no elections in the state.
