Igbo Group Endorses Wike For 2nd Term
Apparently impressed with the excellent performance of Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, within the past three and half years in office, an Igbo socio-cultural group in the state, Nzuko Ndigbo, has endorsed the second term bid of the governor, saying, having discharged and acquitted himself creditably in his first term, he deserves re-election come March 2, 2019.
The group, which made its position known during a general meeting in Port Harcourt yesterday, said Governor Wike had performed creditably in his first term in office, having fulfilled all his campaign promises through infrastructural and human capacity development of the state.
About 250 representatives of the body, comprising traders, elders, title holders, women wing, youth wing, students and professionals, drawn from the 23 local government areas of the state rose in unison and spoke with one voice, while endorsing the governor’s re-election bid.
The group, which gave this indication in a statement signed by its President-General, Chief Akwaeluwo Bestman Ike and its Secretary General, High Chief Henry Kanu, said the Igbos had immensely benefitted from the giant development strides of the Wike administration.
It also applauded Governor Wike’s fearless approach towards making sure that the country’s nascent democracy is not truncated.
“We say you have done well and one good turn deserves another. We are solidly behind you and all the PDP candidates in Rivers State,” it said, assuring that it would massively mobilise all Igbos in the state to vote for Wike and PDP candidates at the polls.
Meanwhile, to actualise the group’s dreams and aspirations towards this end, the leadership of Nzuko Ndigbo has inaugurated two high-powered committees to ensure that Governor Nyesom Wike secure re-election during the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
The committees are the sensitisation committee with Elder Jerry Alaribe (JP) as chairman and the contact and mobilisation committee which has the founder of the group, Chief Uchenna Okokoba as chairman.
While the sensitisation committee is mandated to ensure that all Igbos resident in the state collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) as well as stay back in the state to cast their votes, the contact and mobilisation committee has the onerous task of mobilising all Igbos in the 23 local government areas of the State to vote for Wike and the PDP candidates at the polls.
