Elections: NUJ Tasks INEC, Security Agencies On Neutrality
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on the National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to be neutral during February/March presidential and governorship elections.
Speaking at a citizens open forum organised by “Senior Citizens 60 Plus,” a non-governmental organisation, in Port Harcourt recently, Vice Chairman of the NUJ in Rivers State, Mr Paul Bazia, emphasised that neutrality of both INEC and security agencies was required for a free and fair elections.
Mr. Bazia who represented the NUJ Chairman in Rivers State maintained that the disposition of INEC and security agencies in the past towards supporting some parties was responsible for electoral violence, rigging and other forms of manipulations.
He said: “Our electoral body should show they are fair, neutral and should provide an equal playing field for all parties and candidates”.
