Unity Road Links Opobo Dec –Ikuru
As part of its resolve to link the different communities in the State by road, the Rivers State Government says the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo unity road under construction will get to Kalaibiama in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area by December 2009.
Already, work on the Andoni axis of the project has reached Ebukuma town while that of Opobo axis is at Nkoro town.
The State Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru, while inspecting the project on Wednesday acknowledged that there were daunting challenges facing the delivery of the project such as difficult environment and assured that with the current pace of work, the people of Opobo would be able to use the road by next year.
He commended the contracting firm, Rivigo JV Nigeria Ltd, for the quality and pace of work so far, admitting that the company was having difficulty mobilizing materials for the job, especially on the Andoni axis.
“The company is trying. I must commend them for the work they have done so far. If they continue this way, I believe the road will reach Kalaibiama between now and December,” he said.
He, however, expressed concern over the slope on both sides of Ebukuma bridge but said that he would discuss with the Commissioner for Works on how to address the various problems facing the project.
Speaking, the project manager of Rivigo JV Nigeria Ltd, Engr. Saba Jubril, appreciated the State government’s efforts in addressing the security challenges experienced earlier, saying that the situation has tremendously improved.
