RIRS Warns Against Fake Vehicle Licence Number Plates
The Chairman, Rivers State Internal Revenue Service (RIRS), Adoage Norteh, has warned the public against patronising operators of fake vehicle number plates issuance.
Norteh gave this warning in a chat with journalists in Port Harcourt, weekend.
He noted that the revenue service office had received reports that there were vehicle license number plates of other states in the system.
According to him, “People should be mindful of where they get their vehicle number plates stressing that there are lots of fake number plates in the system”.
Norteh debunked the story making the rounds that, currently, there are no vehicle license number plates at the revenue office, adding that Rivers State would never get vehicle license number plates from another state for use in the state.
He said, “ it is not true that there are no number plates in the state and that we are getting plates meant for other state for use in this state.
“If there are people who brought in plates numbers from wherever, it would be for black market transactions”.
He further said plate numbers used by the revenue service in the state were produced by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
The Rivers revenue Chairman, advised that all those seeking to procure vehicle license number plate should do so by obtaining the relevant documents from the RIRS offices and make payments to the bank and present the bank teller at RIRS office to be issued authentic number plates and avoid being accosted by FRSC, which he explained had put measures in place to embark on fishing out fake plate numbers in 2019.
