RSG Restates Commitment To Workers’ Welfare Taneh Beemene & Kiadum Edookor &Femi Akinyemi
The Rivers State Government says it is committed to payment of arrears of retirees in the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, disclosed this at the 47th anniversary ceremony, workers Parliament and Send-forth of retirees of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, held at the Corporation’s premises last Friday.
The Permanent Secretary who was represented by the Director of Publications in the Ministry, Mr. Valentine Ugboma, said, “The Government is currently working on implementing fully and promptly the payment of the arrears of all retirees in the state”.
The Permanent Secretary commended the management of Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, publishers of The Tide Group of Newspapers, for its commitment to duty, stating that The Tide is one of the few state owned newspapers that are consistent at the newstand.
He pointed out that the feat was as a result of staff dedication and efficient management, and urged the RSNC family to continue to keep the flag flying.
Earlier in his welcome address, the General Manager of the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, Mr. Vincent Ake had thanked God for his grace upon the Corporation for the past 47 years of its existence.
Mr Ake expressed gratitude to staff of the Corporation for their devotion to duty, and urged them to continue to put in their best, saying that hardwork attracts reward,
The General Manager said the Corporation would improve its commercial capacity as soon as the rotary machine is put into full use, and also assured workers of prioritizing their welfare.
He congratulated the retirees for their hard work and dedication while in service in the Corporation and the state at large, and wished them well in their future endeavour.
Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Sir Sam Ovu Eleonu thanked the Rivers State Newspaper Corporation for the honour, noting that retirement was the peak of a distinguished career, and called on workers to always plan for their retirement.
Also speaking on behalf of the awardees, Mr. Arnold Alalibo, of the Editorial Department expressed appreciation to the management for the awards, adding that the honour will be a spur to greater service.
Highlights of the event was the presentation of gifts to the retirees and awards to best staff of various departments of the Corporation.
