17th NSF: Volleyball Coach Seeks Improved Welfare For Athletes
Manager of Bayelsa State Volleyball team, Coach Odubo has advocated for improved players welfare to guarantee successful performance by the team at the 17th National Sports Festival in Port Harcourt early next year.
Odubo, who made the call while reacting to the team’s poor performance of the just concluded Zonal Elimination for Team Sports said that key players of the team have pitched tent with other states because of the inability to meet their demands.
The coach said that despite the poor outing the team still has enormous potentials to do the state proud in national competitions.
He, therefore, called on the authorities to see to the welfare of athletes in the volleyball team and other training to contest at the Sports Festival for better overall performance.
“Our performance at the zonal elimination in Port Harcourt was below par and it was caused by a number of factors ranging from inadequate preparation to poor welfare.
“But I think that despite the odds, the authorities have a chance to amends and learn from the general performance of Team Bayelsa at the zonal eliminations.
“Some of our top athletes are leaning for other states and this is not good for us now especially we want to get medals at the Sports Festival,” he said.
