25 Physically Challeged Persons Get Intels’ Scholarship

Thursday 8th November 2018, witnessed the award of 25 scholarship slots to students with disability by Intels Nigeria Limited in Compassion Home for the Handicapped, Nkpogu, Port Harcourt, and was facilitated by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Physically-Challenged Matters to benefit two secondary school students with disability. The scholarship awards range from primary (N67,500.00), secondary (N150,000.00) and university education (N216,000.00); and Intels have been on this scheme since 2003 with over 100 beneficiaries with disability.
Speaking at the occasion, the Principal, Learning and Development Supervisor, Intels, Peter Lumati said the scholarship awards are aimed at encouraging the physically challenged persons in their educational pursuits from primary to university level, so far the awardees don’t fail or repeat any academic session.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Physically-Challenged Matters, Itekena Altraide advised the awardees to utilise the scholarship awards as their lives (to over the limitations of disability) depend on it. He further told the awardees that it was only education and human capacity development that can transform the community of persons with disability from being liability in the society to becoming societal developers.
He also utilised the session to call on other private businesses in the society to emulate the corporate gestures by Intels. Altraide also hinted that another 20 scholarship awards will soon become available courtesy of total E&P Nigeria Limited. He lamented that persons with disability in Rivers State so far do not have any reason not to acquire formal education, adding that with the support his office has received from Governor Wike, the office would soon commence human capital developement to commemorate the transformation processes of persons with disability in the State.
Also, in attendance was the Executive Chairman of Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Eugene Joshua Jaja who was amazed at the contribution of INTELS to the development of persons with disability at this time of financial difficulties as perpetuated by the Buhari led Federal Government. Hon. Jaja conveyed his knowledge of INTELS to the beneficiaries: that if with the present ordeal INTELS is experiencing under this Federal Government of Nigeria and they can still showcase such benevolence, then nothing stops other companies in the State to emulate INTELS. He further thank the initiative of Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for appointing Itekena Altraide as his Senior Special Assistant on Physically-Challenged Matters.
The session was overwhelmed with tears of joy from the beneficiaries, their families and caregivers, as well as friends, mostly when one of the secondary scholarship benefactor (Destiny Ransom) led the session with songs of worship and thanksgiving.
