Agency Tasks Govt On Waste Compactors
Niger State Environmental Protection Agency (NISEPA) has urged the Niger State Government to provide the agency with waste compactors for better waste management the General Manager of The Agency, Mr Lucky Barau, made the call in an interview with newsmen in Minna last Wednesday.
He said that the agency was ineffective with the current traditional method of waste disposal with trucks.
“The world has moved, I do not think there is any country still using the traditional method of waste disposal for its waste disposal.
“We need to move with the trend because of its numerous advantages especially as it affects the human health.
According to him the waste compactors if purchased by the government will improve the cleanliness of the state.
He added that the compactors would also save cost and radically reduce the need for the purchase of more trucks.
He explained that with compactors, waters were normally concealed in a self-contained unit and smelly wastes overflowing from a truck eliminated.
“With a waste compactor, fewer pickup trips will be needed as it will help reduce transportation costs and maintenance” he said.
Barau said that the compactor would also help reduce infections and diseases associated with unprofessional handling of wastes.
