The Rivers State Government has commenced full deliberations on draft proposals for the 2011 State Budget with detailed Ministry-by-Ministry presentation by Commissioners.
The Commissioner for Budget, Mr Charles Levi Gogo, who disclosed this Wednesday night while briefing Government House correspondents on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting in Port Harcourt, said the budget which would soon be presented to the State House of Assembly was for continuity and would accord priority attention to the provision of water and electricity in the 2011 budget.
Mr Gogo, said since council resolved that since water was an important element, it would vigorously pursue the issue of providing the people of the state with potable water in Port Harcourt and its environs.
Similarly, he said the state government would continue with the process of giving electricity to the people of the state in the next year’s budget, adding that no major new projects would be undertaken until the ongoing ones were completed.
Mr Gogo said the State Government would not derive figures arbitrarily, but would thoroughly provide for the various ministries, departments and parastatals such that what was budgeted was fully implemented.
He explained that the present administration considers it important to complete what has been started before embarking on new projects to enable the people benefit from the vision of such initiatives.
