DELGA Residents Task Chairman On National Grid
Residents of Degema local government area in Rivers have called on the Chairman of the Council, Mr Abiye Davies, to ensure that the area is connected to the national grid.
Asari-Toru, Akuku-Toru and Degema LGAs in Rivers were in one council area before the split into three to enhance socio-political development.
Both Asari-Toru and Akuku-Toru council areas had since been connected to the national grid to boost electricity supply in the areas.
A resident, Mr. Alalibo Brown, told newsmen last Saturday in Port Harcourt that Degema, as a colonial town, had not been connected to the national grid since it was established.
He said that socio-economic development in Degema LGA was impeded because there was no electricity supply in the area.
Another resident, Mrs. Ikoruba Isokariari, called on the chairman to toe the line of the chairmen of Asari –Toru and Akuku – Toru councils to connect the area to the national grid.
She noted that because of lack of electricity supply in the area, businesses could not grow or survive.
Also speaking, Mr Tams Emmanuel, said that Degema LGA was overdue for electricity supply.
According to him, if the area is connected to the national grid, a lot of business activities will thrive.
Emmanuel appealed to the council chairman to do something fast to ensure that the area, like its sister councils, is connected to the national grid.
