Community Cries Out Over Flooding
Residents of Egbelu Community in Obio/Akpor of Rivers State are now calling on Rivers State government for help following the incessant flooding in the area.
The Tide learnt that major part of the area including the new layout and location road are all flooded leading to destruction of some properties.
Some residents of the area who spoke to The Tide on the situation said that they have been displaced by the incident occasioned by heavy rainfall.
They therefore called on the state government to come to their aid as they have lost their properties to the flood.
A resident, Mrs Grace Akum blanned the incident on lack of adequate drainage in the area.
According to her, “during the rainy season, due to the fact that there is no gutter for the water to flow, it flows to nearby houses.
“Even the river here sometimes overflows into the homes of people around the area, and they have to remove large amounts of water from their homes.
She further explained that some residents are also at fault due to the fact that some people contribute to the flooding by pouring dirts into the small gutters that were done by the landlord association of the area.
The different associations in the area had previously constructed some drainage system in the form of gutters, but that has not been able to stand the test of time as it was not properly done.
“The major problem is still that there is no adequate drainage system and I will like the government or whoever that is responsible to come and help us in this area she said.
