2019: Rotary Wants End To Violence, March For Peace
The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Down South, District 9141 is seeking for an end to violence during and after the 2019 general elections.
This was the outcome of the Port Harcourt peace mass rally organized by the Club in collaboration with the Nigerian Police and other security Agencies at the weekend in Port Harcourt.
The rally tagged: “Walk with Rotary For Peace Mass Rally season 2” started from the GRA junction and ended at the Ernest Ikoli Press Centre Port Harcourt.
The participants which involved men and women including the youths carried several placards with inscriptions such as “Rivers is peaceful, 2019 will be peaceful, Rotary for peaceful 2019 elections” amongst others.
Addressing the participants before the take off of the rally, the District Governor Rotary District 9141, Rotarian Oladokun Adeyemi said that the Club has six focal areas which included peace and conflict resolutions, service to humanity among others, stressing that the club is working hard to enthrone global peace Rotarian Aadyemi said that development will continue to elude the country if there is no peace.
Also speaking, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni said that the command will continue to collaborate with other organizations to ensure peace in the state.
Mr. omoni also told newsmen that the Police will continue to train its officers with the view to ensuring peaceful and credible elections in the state.
Also speaking, the President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Down Town Rotarian Alex Woke said that the event which is an annual one was to sensitise the society on the need for peace in the state.
He also said that the rally was inline with global peace movement stressing that the club will be organizing an event on the 21st of this month to mark world peace day.
