Amaechi Tasks Navy On Water-ways Safety
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has attributed the relative peace enjoyed in the state to the unflinching support of the Nigeria Navy and other security agencies.
Governor Amaechi gave this indication last Tuesday when the out-going Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Igwe Acholonu, paid him a courtesy visit.
Represented by his deputy; Engr. Tele Ikuru, the state chief executive said that movement along waterways in the state was difficult and dangerous before the inception of his administration, stating that with the co-operation of members of the Naval Forces in the state, the situation was brought under control.
He commended the out-going Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, for his fruitful service to the state in the past two years, regretting the short service period allowed military officers to stay in a particular place of service.
He urged the in-coming Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Usman Jibrin to follow the foot-steps of his predecessor in combating crime on our waterways, pledging the usual support of the state government to the Navy and other security agencies.
Earlier, Rear Admiral Acholonu had said that they were in Government House to notify the Rivers State Government of his redeployment to the Naval Headquarters, Abuja, as Chief of Naval Training Command and to introduce the in-coming Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command.
