3rd Anniversary: Rivers Community In Abuja Hails Amaechi
The Rivers State Community in Abuja RIVCOM has commended Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, for the massive infrastructural development in the state.
Speaking with The Tide in Abuja on the 3rd anniversary of the Amaechi administration, Rivcom President, Chief Brighten Saagwe, described the anniversary as a thing of joy; stressing that some tremendous development have been achieved in the state during the period.
According to Chief Saagwe “we ‘re beginning to see dividends of democracy, specifically in the areas of massive road construction; in the education sector where so many were granted scholarship. At the last count, there are at least 250 students of Rivers extraction studying abroad at the expense of the state government”.
“Even in the health sector, the government has granted free medical care to the aged above 60 years and infants of six years and below. Now, there is also free education at the primary and secondary school level”, he enthused.
He said, “the government of Rt. Hon. Amaechi has performed very creditably” and advised him not to relent but should remain focused in the remaining year of his administration.
Saagwe advised that the focus now should be on completion of all the projects undertaken by the administration that are yet to be completed, contract for new projects should not be awarded during the period, adding that the government should ensure that those awarded scholarship to undertake various course of study within and outside the country should complete their courses.
The Rivers community president advised members of the state executive and other top notchers of the administration to rally round the governor this last one year, to ensure he continued with the good works and shun corruption.
Saagwe, however, picked hole in Governor Amaechi’s response to the welfare of Rivers people in Abuja, saying that, while Amaechi has taken certain steps to address issues bothering on the community’s welfare, “ much is still being expected”.
“Former Governor, Dr. Peter Odili gave us (RIVCOM) 25 shots to the Holy Land, but he gave us five; he should increase it. We have not gained much under him. He should do more for the Rivers State Community in Abuja, so that we can have Rivers Centre in Abuja. He should support us, just as we are supporting him”, he said.
