LG Boss Charges Teachers On Upbringing Of Pupils, Students
The Chairman of
Emohua Local Government Council in Rivers State, Chief Tom Aliezi, has called on teachers in the area to ensure proper upbringing of pupils and students in order to disabuse their minds from indulging in crimes and other criminal activities in the society.
Aliezi made the call while playing host to the National Union of Teachers (NUT), Emohua branch at the council’s headquarters last Thursday.
He said that it would have been a herculean task for some prominent members of the society to attain their present status, if not for the intervention of teachers in their formative days.
The EMOLGA council boss disassociated himself from the popular view that teachers rewards are in heaven and added that the profession remains the noblest due to its role in children’s upbringing.
He also appealed to members of NUT in the area to use their God-given talents to raise the children to enable the society achieve peace and development.
The chairman, in a way to support the union assured them of all necessary assistance to aid them in giving quality education to the students in the local government.
Earlier, the state Chairman of NUT, Comrade Lucky Nkpognne, pointed out that teachers were trained to educate the students on how to choose the right path to follow.
Nkpognne was of the view that his members were saddled with the necessary training that could help in returning the society to shape.
Also speaking, the EMOLGA Chairman of the union, Comrade Nnamdi Dike thanked the chairman for the privilege and promised to be more dutiful.
Meanwhile, Aliezi has also called on batch B NYSC members posted to the area to be dedicated to duty.
He said that the corps members must keep themselves for the main purpose of their posting to the area and not to look for cheap ways of excusing themselves from duty.
According to him, all attempts must be in line with Governor Nyesom Wike’s plans to provide quality education for Rivers people.
He assured them of adequate security throughout their service days.
The River State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor has called on media practitioners in Rivers State to deploy their various communication platforms toward promoting government programmes and policies aimed at achieving sustainable development in the education sector. Dr. Nwagor made the appeal when members of the Etche Ethnic Practicing Journalists (EEPJ) paid him a courtesy visit in Office in Port Harcourt. The Commissioner emphasized the strategic role of the media in shaping public perception, promoting government initiatives, and supporting policies capable of improving the quality of education and human capital development in the state. According to him, constructive media engagement remains essential in creating public awareness on educational reforms, students’ welfare, infrastructural improvements, and other interventions being implemented by the state government.
