Association Wants Land To Build Trailer Park
In line with the Rivers State Government’s order against illegal motor parks in the State, Trailer Drivers Association in Port Harcourt has called on government to provide them land to build a trailer park in town area of Port Harcourt.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Association, Alhaji Abubakar Musa, made the call in an interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt.
Musa, who is also the Vice Chairman of Garkuwa Association, a vigilante group formed by Northerners in Rivers State, said parking spaces for trailers have been a challenge, especially at the Yam Zone area of the Port Harcourt township in the State.
According to him, trailers that brought goods from other parts of the country have no parking spaces and on daily basis caused road traffic in the State.
Musa also called for the building of ultra-modern yam zone market, where parking space for trailers would be provided to avoid illegal parking on the road.
The union’s PRO, however, told The Tide that they were embarking on fruitful effort to rid the road and streets of Port Harcourt of illegal trailer parking.
He said the union has already cautioned it’s members across the state against illegal parking on the road.
The PRO, on behalf of the union, commended the State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for the construction and maintenance of road in the State.
He said the developmental gesture on road infrastructure has reduced road accidents and traffic in the State.
Musa reassured the Rivers State Government on the union’s readiness to support the developmental agenda of the Governor in the State.
He also used the opportunity to call on the state government to extend the N200 million loan for traders to the Trailer Drivers Association in the State.

Kenyan Runners Dominate Berlin Marathons
Kenya made it a clean sweep at the Berlin Marathon with Sabastian Sawe winning the men’s race and Rosemary Wanjiru triumphing in the women’s.
Sawe finished in two hours, two minutes and 16 seconds to make it three wins in his first three marathons.
The 30-year-old, who was victorious at this year’s London Marathon, set a sizzling pace as he left the field behind and ran much of the race surrounded only by his pacesetters.
Japan’s Akasaki Akira came second after a powerful latter half of the race, finishing almost four minutes behind Sawe, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele followed in third.
“I did my best and I am happy for this performance,” said Sawe.
“I am so happy for this year. I felt well but you cannot change the weather. Next year will be better.”
Sawe had Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record of 2:00:35 in his sights when he reached halfway in 1:00:12, but faded towards the end.
In the women’s race, Wanjiru sped away from the lead pack after 25 kilometers before finishing in 2:21:05.
Ethiopia’s Dera Dida followed three seconds behind Wanjiru, with Azmera Gebru, also of Ethiopia, coming third in 2:21:29.
Wanjiru’s time was 12 minutes slower than compatriot Ruth Chepng’etich’s world record of 2:09:56, which she set in Chicago in 2024.
