Maritime Expert Lauds INTELS Over Port Dev
A maritime expert, Mr. Chimenum Ndamati has commended Integrated Logistic Service Limited (INTELS) over the contributions made towards human capacity building and maritime development in Nigeria.
Mr. Ndemati who made the commendation in his office in Port Harcourt Monday in an interview with The Tide, applauded the concession initiative of former president Olusegun Obasanjo, which he said is yielding a positive result on the nation’s seaports.
According to him, going by the concession agreement, INTELS has shown commitment and investment towards the realisation of the federal government’s vision on seaport development in Nigeria, especially in Onne port.
Ndamati who is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Global Shipping Limited, lamented the poor state of infrastructure in Port Harcourt port compared to that of Onne port, which he said is due to the total negligence and breach of concession agreement by terminal operators in Port Harcourt port.
Apart from the terminal operator in terminal ‘A’ who has shown some level of commitment on infrastructural development in Port Harcourt Port, he said the operator in terminal ‘B’ deserve sack for not operating in line with the concession agreement, as well as not committing some funds in the development of its area of operation.
He urged other terminal operators to borrow a leaf from Intels who have turn massive swampy area to a modern seaport in Onne, a step that have upgraded Nigeria to the status of being the hub of oil and gas free zone in the West African sub-region.
“The success story of Intels in the sector has attracted over 150 companies participation in oil and Gas free zone Onne and have created thousands indirect and direct jobs, it has also generated reasonable revenue to the government”, he added.
