2011: Women Group Begins Prayer Crusade
An inter-denominational women Christian group christened Divine Daughters of Destiny has unveiled plans to commence a special prayer crusade ahead the 2011 elections.
Making the plans public President of the group Pastor Adaba Patience Abbi told newsmen in Port Harcourt last Wednesday that the programme tagged, “Like a mighty Wind” will feature popular evangelist Umah Ukpai and other new of God.
Pastor Abbi said there is more to elections than casting of votes and politicking, “it is God that selects leaders and this time we want the hand of God to intervene.”
Though she said the programme is part of the yearly activities of the group, this year’s edition according to her will have a fresh dimension as it intends to unveil its new name from Daughters of Destiny to Divine Daughters of Destiny.
Commenting on the nation’s jubilee anniversary, the Divine Daughters of Destiny President observed that the country was moving at a slow pace, “but we think that Christians can make a difference by praying for our leaders and believe the best for them.”
She enjoined women not to eschew from participating in politics since they serve as pillars of support to the men folk both at home and at work.
Pastor Abbi also called on women to fully partake in the prayer ministry as a way of showcasing their talents, stressing that the group is a platform to express themselves.
Apart from prayer and other religious activities, she explained that the group also carries out other societal activities in the areas of women and youth empowerment schemes to better the family.
Abbi disclosed that earlier this year, the body organised a one-month empowerment programme during which about 800 women across the state participated.
It also plans to organise a health seminar on family planning for couples, adding that very soon it will commence opening of branches at local areas to touch the grassroots.
She lauded the efforts of the senior Pastor of Redemption Ministers, Rev. Stephen Akinola, whom she described as the visioner and pillar of support for the group.
