Community Seeks Inclusion In Amnesty Deal
The chairman of the Obrikom Peace and Reconcillation Committee in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, Engr Clement Nwaogwu, has called for the inclusion of the community in the amnesty programme.
Engr Nwaogwu who said this during a chieftaincy installation ceremony in the area said that the community is now peaceful following the renunciation of violence by suspected militants in the area.
He stressed the need for chiefs and traditional rulers to see themselves as peace makers in their various communities, stressing that the experience of the community has shown the chiefs must not abandon their roles as peace makers.
Also speaking, the Ochioha of Obrikom Eze Christian Nkisoh said that the ceremony was in line with the written constitution that was recently adopted by the community.
Eze Nkisoh said that the ceremony was to sustain the peace of the community.
“I want to sustain the peace of this land, that is why I have decided to be out in the arena here to coronate these chiefs.
“There is an additional honorary chieftaincy title for illustrious son of Obrikom” he said.
Also speaking the chairman, Community Development Committee (CDC) Obrikom, Mr Olisa Ben Osoh described the occasion as a joyous moment for the community and urged the new chiefs to see themselves as servants of the people.
