Diete-Spiff Hails Rivers Geographic Info System
The first Military Governor of old Rivers State, King Alfred Diete Spiff, says the Rivers State Geographic Information System (RIVGIS) represents a new dawn for the state.
King Diete Spiff, who is also the Amanyanabo of Twon Brass in Bayelsa State, said this during the official commissioning of the RIVGIS in Port Harcourt.
The first Rivers military governor said the development was a healthy one that gave meaning to dividend, of democracy. According to him, it will facilitate the processing of land related documents, thereby easing the process of acquisition of landed properties in the state.
In his welcome address, the State Commissioner for Land and Survey, Chief Ezemonye Ezekiel-Amadi said that the ceremony was the fallout of the 2008 land summit in the state.
He said RIVGIS is a response to the outcry by properties owners in the state over the poor services being rendered by the land registry.
The commissioner said that the ministry had put in place a comprehensive, fool proof and computerised geospatial infrastructure that would ensure a quicker and more reliable service delivery.
Consequent upon this, he said certificates of occupancy would now be issued within 45 days, noting that it is the vision of the ministry to emerge as the foremost revenue earning department of government, through a transparent land administration system.
Earlier, in his presentation, the chief project consultant, Surveyor Miebaka Iyalla had said that the system will ensure effective project monitoring in the state.
