…Lauds NUC Over Geology Department
The Vice Chancellor of Rivers State University, (RSU) Nkpolu, Port Harcourt Prof Blessing Chimezie Didia has commended the Nigerian university Commission (NUC) for the approval to have a Department of Geology in the institution.
Didia made this commendation when a Professor of Geology, Songo Teme led other geologists in the state to pay him a courtesy visit in his office in Port Harcourt recently.
The Vice Chancellor opined that the establishment of the Geology Department was a dream come true by his administration and assured to support the department grow to achieve its purpose.
According to him, “I was deeply disturbed over the absence of Geology Department on assumption of office. Hence, I resolved to set up the department in realisation of the university’s core mandate”.
In his own speech, Professor Songo Teme lauded the vice chancellor for ensuring the establishment of the Geology Department, noting that the vice chancellor had built a lasting legacy in the university and the state at large.
He averred that the department in few years will produce qualified geologists for the state and the nation and thanked the vice chancellor for providing the needed facilities and laboratories for the successful commencement of academic activities in the department.

Education Commissioner Seeks media collaboration in Rivers
The River State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor has called on media practitioners in Rivers State to deploy their various communication platforms toward promoting government programmes and policies aimed at achieving sustainable development in the education sector.
