Job Seekers Storm Enugu Trade Fair Ground
Hundreds of part-time job seekers from Enugu and its environs last Thursday, thronged the Enugu Trade Fair Complex ahead of the commencement of the 29th Enugu International Trade on Friday.
The Tide source reports that most of the job-seekers were students, who wanted marketing and sales representative jobs; while others are artisans such as decorators, painters and electricians.
A student, Miss Chioma Umeh said that she had been lucky to get a job with a soft drink marketing company on Wednesday.
Umeh, who is a student of Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), noted that for today, “I and three other students are going through some orientation ahead of tomorrow being the beginning of the fair.’’
“The agreement was that I will receive N1, 000 as pay as well as N500 for launch each day.
“While at the end of the fair, I will also be been given commission over the number of customers I will attract to the stand either for direct purchases or enquiries,’’ she said.
Another student, Mr Uche Madu, told our source that he was still searching to get a place to serve as a marketer at the fair.
“At least, I am praying to get a place that I am sure of N1,500 each day; which will amount to N15,000 for the 10 days,’’ Madu, who is a student of University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC), said.
A decorator, Miss Joy Chigozie, noted that she had only gotten one job but was scouting to get more before the fair would start.
Chigozie said the job she already got would fetch her about N12, 000 as take-home after all expenses.
“The profit level is okay but it is just that the number of jobs or contract is low and I have only seen one.
“However, I am not resigning to fate as I am still pressing forward to secure more jobs at this fair ground,’’ she said.
A painter, Mr Chike Offor said that he was still having a lot of jobs to do and had to call for assistance from his two sons.
Offor noted that he had already painted 12 stands in the fair ground and had collected at least N5, 000 each as workmanship apart from the cost of paints and other materials for the work.
The fair which is on-going holds between March 16 and March 26 at the fair complex beside Golf Course, GRA, Enugu.
The fair, which is being organised by Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA), was be declared open on March 16 by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The theme of the fair is: “Engendering the Competitiveness of Nigeria’s Products in the Global Market’’.
