AIG Accuses Monarchs Of Aiding Crime
The new Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone Six,Calabar Usman Abubakar has tasked traditional rulers to stop aiding and abetting crimes and criminality, and help the police to curb the menace in the society.
Abubakar, who was on his maiden visit to Rivers State, yesterday told the traditional rulers at the Rivers State Police Command headquarters that securing the state starts from the communities.
He noted that Rivers State would have experienced rapid growth and development but for the incessant security issues bedevilling the state, adding that the state occupies an important place in the economic development of the country.
The new Zone Six AIG, who once served as Commissioner of Police in Abia State, also said that the disarmament campaign of the Nigeria Police Force was not targeted at any group but to ensure that the nation and society were safe from the hands of evil men.
Abubakar called on members of the public, especially residents of the hinterlands to help the police in the mop up operations for peace to return to the state and the region, and urged them to report all suspicious elements to the police.
He urged members of the media to always cross-check their facts before publishing, adding that in doing so, they would build confidence in the public.
The Tide reports that AIG Usman Abubakar took over from Abubakar Marafa, who is now retired.
Earlier, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Zaki Ahmed had assured the new AIG of the command’s support in the achievement of his mandate in the zone.
