RIWAMA Adjusts Refuse Disposal Hours
The Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) has announced a little adjustment in its scheduled waste disposal hours for members of the public.
Sole Administrator of the agency, Bro Felix Obuah, shortly after an unscheduled monitoring of major roads and streets in Port Harcourt, the State capital early hours yesterday, said the dumping time will now be from 6p.m. to12 midnight.
The Sole Administrator said the adjustment became necessary to accommodate traders and shop owners who close their shops by 6 p.m., to enable them dispose off their wastes before going home for the day.
Reassuring that the agency will not relent in its avowed commitment, as it is working round the clock to keep Port Harcourt and its environs clean and healthy; Bro. Obuah announced the setting up of a special taskforce to arrest and prosecute anyone found dumping refuse at unauthorised places and outside the new refuse disposal hours of 6p.m. to 12 midnight.
At Rukpokwu-Aluu Road, SARS Road and surrounding roads and streets, and D/Line axis of Port Harcourt, the State capital, the Sole Administrator gave a marching order to the contractor in charge of the zone to ensure that the area is kept clean within 7 hours.
