‘Nigerian Army Among The Best’ … PH Now Peaceful- Brig Commander
Nigerian Army has been labelled one of the best following their discipline and professionalism during peace operations in various parts of the world.
General Officer Commanding the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major-General Mohammed Isah made the observation while closing the five day Warrant Officer/Non-Commissioned Officers Inter Brigade Competition in Port Harcourt on Friday.
Maj-Gen Isah said a lot have been achieved in terms of training and espirit-de-corps in the military circle noted that the exercise has improved the physical fitness and combat readiness of the soldiers.
His words, “there is a great improvement and a brighter future for the Nigerian Army and these achievements are attributed to the Chief of Army Staff”.
The most important aspect of the competition, he stated, is to further boost training in the lower cadre since the NCOs and Warrant Officers serve as link between officers and the soldiers.
Instead of training the whole formation he observed that the exercise is cost-saving, “training them is as training the lower cadre, because they are with them.
And it is like training the trainer.
Commenting on how the army is ready to assist in the amnesty granted by the Federal Government to Niger Delta militants, he said they are willing to abide by the directive of the Commander-In-chief and Chief of Defence Staff.
Meanwhile, the Brigade Commander of the 2nd Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Brig-Gen. Ladam Yusuf has said that security has improved tremendously in Rivers State.
He informed the 82 Division GOC that Port Harcourt is now peaceful and expressed appreciation to the army for making it possible.
He also lauded the NDDC for selecting the 2nd Brigade barracks for roads up-gradement and rehabilitation.
The Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Competition witnessed participation of about five formations under the division.
The competition covered exercises in physical fitness, combat swimming, map reading and weapon handling.
2nd Brigade Port Harcourt took the overall first position, followed by 13 Brigade Calabar and the third position to 34th brigade Owerri. 72 Battalion Makurdi came last with a wooden spoon trophy.
