N’ Delta Crisis: Bishop Carpets Politicians
The Catholic Bishop of Awgu Diocese, Most Rev (Dr) John Okoye has blamed the rising tide of militancy and criminality in the Niger Delta on the failure of the political class to address the developmental challenges in the region.
Most Rev Okoye , who said this during the enthronement of the new Catholic bishop of Port Harcourt, Most Rev Camillus Archibong Etukudoh also urged the federal government to march its word with action in the region.
He said that the wrong polices and programmes of the various successive governments in the country have denied the citizenry access to basic infrastructural facilities stressing that it is the responsibility of the government to provide the citizens with basic infrastructure.
He urged the diocese to see the ceremony as a moment of reflection of what God has done for them, while also urging the new Bishop to see his enthronement as an opportunity to take the diocese to higher glory
The clergyman also lamented the rise in kidnapping and ritual killing in the country, stressing that time has come for the people to seek the face of God through genuine repentance.
Most Rev Okoye also warned the church against giving room to any form of division , noting that they should see themselves of one body united through Christ and called for support to the new Bishop to enable him succeed.
Most Rev Camillus Archibong Etukudoh is the third bishop since the inception of the catholic diocease of Port Harcourt.
He succeeds Most Rev Dr Alexius Makozi, who has proceeded on retirement.
