RSG Renews Commitment To Qualitative Education
The Rivers state Government has restated its commitment towards the provision of qualitative education in the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, who stated this during the graduation ceremony of Batch 2009/2010 students of Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Borokiri, also said that the government is poised to empowering youths in the state with relevant skills.
Semenitari,who was represented by a director in the ministry, Mr. Samuel Iyoyo, said this informed government decision to equip the 350 model primary schools with the necessary facilities in sports, science, arts computer and others.
The commissioner ,charged youths to avail themselves of the opportunities provided by information and communication technology (ICT) to improve themselves.
According to her, the state is seeking for youths who would see the internet as a powerful research field to provide answers to the questions bothering the nation.
“All around us, Nigeria is emerging as different fields are opening up in front of us daily driven by ICT. I therefore, challenge this graduating set: be wise, find out the real reason why they created the computer”, she said.
In his welcome address, the Commandant of the college, Captain A. Alamu, said that the ceremony was the culmination of the rich culture of the school, built on a solid foundation of sound co-curricular and academic programme.
But he attributed it to the commitment and support of the Naval headquarters parents as well as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
He used the occasion to call for assistance in the area of electronic laboratory equipment, music studio equipment, computer laboratory equipment amongst others.
In his address, the chairman of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), Dr. Akuro Gobo, charged the students to be good ambassadors of the college.
