Do More For Host Communities, RVHA Tells NOAC …As Assembly Goes On Recess

The Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) has been urged to improve on its corporate social responsibility with its Rumueme host community.
The Chairman, Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Youth,Employment and Empowerment, Hon Martins Mannah gave this charge while on an oversight function to the company, last Wednesday.
He said the visit was in connection to an alleged case of neglect by the Rumueme community against Agip, noting that the aim was to bring lasting peace to the age-long problem between both parties.
He blamed the company for not embarking on scholarships and employment for the people, and urged the compnay to scale up its performance while advising the community to be peaceful.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State House of Assembly has gone on a one month vacation.
The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani made the announcement, last Tuesday during plenary.
He said it was necessary that the House proceeds on recess having completed the required sitting days, noting that the House had achieved so much during the period.
Speaking with newsmen, the Chairman, House Committee on Information and Training, Hon Sam Ogeh said the House decided to formally proceed on an annual recess even though the lawmakers had already commenced the third session.
He noted that notwithstanding the recess, they might still reconvene when the need arises.
The House is expected to resume on September 21.
