Eight Weightlifters Set For World Championships
Secretary-General of Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF), Abdullahi Libata, on Tuesday in Abuja said, eight weightlifters were set to represent the country at the World Weightlifting Championships in France in next month.
Libata told newsmen that the lifters, comprising three male and five female ones, were currently training in their various states.
He said the players had gained qualification to the event after their participation in the African Championships in Morocco last year.
“Blessing Oborodudu, Amina Adeniyi, Genesis Mercy, Gofit Winnie and Adekuroye Odunayo are the female athletes, while the males are John Ogbonna, Dressman Kemesuodei and Tamaro Soso,’’ the NWF secretary-general said.
He however said next week’s inauguration of the Federation’s new board would determine where the players would stay for the closed camping phase of their preparation for the event.
