Civil Servants Aiding Corrupt Politicians – Wike
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has accused civil servants at both the state and federal levels of allowing themselves to be used by certain politicians to perpetrate the act of corruption in the country.
The governor stated this while swearing-in new permanent secretaries in the state, recently.
Wike alleged that recent events had shown that civil servants open the doors of corruption to politicians, adding that the trend had continued to create problems for the various governments.
According to him, “with due respect, it is not as if I want to let anybody down. The civil service has been the problem; not only the civil service in the state. Even at the federal level, sometimes, they are the ones who open the doors for politicians.”
The governor further alleged that civil servants allow themselves to be influenced by politicians, who lure them into opening doors of corruption, adding that the civil servants were the ones who instigate and ensure that corruption is perpetrated successfully.
He appealed to all the permanent secretaries sworn-in to realise that the opportunity given them to serve the state was rare, and admonished them to seize the opportunity to make indelible marks before they exit from office.
Wike told the new permanent secretaries that Rivers State Government under his watch expects 100 per cent loyalty in the formulation, articulation and execution of government policies and implementation of pro-people programmes.
He warned that only through commitment and dedication will the government succeed in delivering democracy dividends to Rivers people in line with the NEW Rivers Vision.
