Improved Sanitation: Expert Wants FG To Recruit Professionals
The President, Society for the Promotion of People`s Rights, an NGO, Mr Williams Osaze, has advised the Federal Government to employ more professionals to promote environmental health for effective service delivery.
Osaze, an environmentalist made the appeal in an interview in Abuja.
He said the inadequate number of professionals was one of the reasons affecting service delivery in the area of environmental sanitation across the country.
According to him, more hands are needed to prevent the spread of diseases as well as assist in mobilising and covering national sanitation exercises.
“Employment of more environmental health officers will go a long way in preventing the spread of diseases that can give negative name to our nation.
“When the environment is not friendly to humans and animals, it can result to all kind of diseases.
“So when the number of the officers increased in all states, even up to the local areas, it will assist to cover the national sanitation.
“The effort will promote the environmental sanitation and the officers will equally join hands to educate people on the importance of daily environmental sanitation,” he said.
He stressed that the organisation is planning to sensitise the public on the dangers of keeping toilets as well as the environment unhealthy.
The president, however, advised Nigerians to participate in environmental sanitation activities to enhance disease control and reduce death rate in the country.
He also called on the public to support government at all levels to take precautions toward averting any negative consequences that might arise during this season.
