Focus On Nigeria’s Dev, Author Tells Citizens
An author and evangelist, Ibi Whyte says Nigerians should jettison the idea of balkanization of the country but rather focus on its growth and development in all ramifications.
In a statement she signed and made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt, Whyte said Nigerians must work hard to get to the top and not to claim to have arrived when nothing has been achieved both economically and politically.
“Nobody gets to the top only by claiming to be there. We as a giant of Africa, as we claim, should ask ourselves what we have done all these years with such claims, let us work now”, she stressed.
The evangelist who explained that she was not a politician but a concerned citizen with divine revelation, stressed the need for Nigerians to be prayerful to God concerning the present hard times and economic stagnation, urging the Federal and State governments, especially the President and Governors to engage men and women with the fear of God in their policies and programmes.
According to her, it is by so doing that the country would begin to get God’s favour, pointing out that until Nigerians learn to love their neighbours as themselves and understand that we are one in this world, there will be continuous agitation for the country’s division.
The lady of God, however, predicted that “we in this part of the country, South-South and South-East, including part of middle belta will merge to make up our own country that would be called the Niger Delta nation”, saying “this is a suggestion and a geographical revelation”.
Recalling that in 2014, Rivers State was given the prestigious award as the World Book Centre, she noted that since then, the international community has been expecting more from the state, “for us to live up to that level of independence”.
The author and singer harped on the need for re-orientation in the Niger Delta region, saying “we have great men and women of God claiming to love God but have not put it into practice” even as she added, “our election in a Christian dominated country was won by a Muslim. The Christians are concerned about what they will get but not about what they can give, leadership is not all about self-enrichment but citizens’ empowerment”.
Whyte further recalled that during the regional government, the component regions used to keep their incomes but wondered why revenues accruing from the South-South and Niger Delta have become ‘National cake’ today, saying “we are sidelined, maltreated and rendered poor in the midst of plenty with polluted lands and water. Ours, as a much more dominated Christian region or nation should excel more if what we claim and preach is true”.
