Rivers Monarch Lists Path To Sustainable Dev …Hails Wike On Chieftaincy Stools Review
A first class traditional ruler in Rivers State, Eze Leslie Nyebuchi Eke, has described the 50th anniversary celebration of Rivers State as an opportunity to redefine the ideals of the founding fathers of Rivers State for better prospects.
Eke, who is the Eze Gbakagbaka of Evo Kingdom and Eze Oha Evo III, said Rivers State was created on the foundation of unity and goodwill, anchored on diverse cultural potentials and heritage.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt, the Eze Gbakagbaka said Rivers State has remained the envy of other states, because of its enormous natural and human potentials and warned against externally motivated ploys to create division among the people of the state.
Eke, a member of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, said, traditional rulers by their disposition as natural leaders stand a better position to promote sustainable peace and development in the state.
He said traditional stools in Rivers State were replete with an enduring culture of succession and heritage and cautioned against unguarded infiltration of the traditional institution by people without any pedigree of traditional succession.
The Evo monarch, commended the Rivers State Governor over his efforts to restore sanity in the traditional institution by setting up the chieftaincy stools review panel to streamline the process of chieftaincy ascendancy in the state.
The monarch also hailed Governor Nyesom Wike, for his strong character and firmness to give quality leadership to Rivers State in the face of glaring challenges.
He assured the support of the traditional rulers to the governor to enable him succeed and called on the people; youth, women, political leaders, religious leaders to contribute their quota to the development of the state.
According to Eze Eke; “sustainable peace and development can only be achieved in Rivers State when the people recognize their sense of originality and take their destinies into their hands, without playing the second fiddle in the scheme of things”.
