Lift Project Ban On Rivers, Tam-George Tells APC
The Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Dr. Austin Tam-George, has taken a swipe at the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government over its policy of exclusion on project execution, instituted against Rivers State.
Speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt shortly after the commissioning of the second Phase of the Nkpogu Bridge, the commissioner described the neglect of Rivers State by APC, in terms of project execution, as deliberate injustice and victimisation.
He pointed out that Rivers state has made substantial economic sacrifice to the development of Nigeria, as it contributes over 53 per cent of the federal government’s revenue and called on the APC to lift its project ban on the state.
Tam-George further disclosed that the APC government has failed the people of Nigeria, as it has not fulfilled its many promises to the people.
He said, “the APC government has failed Nigerians, in every way, they have chosen to operate a deliberate policy of neglect against Rivers State, they have not cited a single project in Rivers State in two years. This is not only injustice but an incitement of our people to governments at all levels. We want the Port Harcourt International Airport to be reconstructed speedily considering the way the runway of the Abuja Airport was done”.
Commenting on the Nkpogu bridge project, which was commissioned by the former President. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Tam-George said the project was very important to the economic development of Rivers State, as it was a major link road to the industrial hub of the state at Trans-Amadi.
He said the Governor Nyesom Wike administration has lived up to its policy trust of developing the State, and called on the people of Rivers State to support the government critically by lending their views to the development of the state.
Tam-George also called on governments at all levels to rise up to their responsibilities to the people, and frowned against the politics of polarization, which leads to economic stagnation and under development.
