Varsity Proprietor Tasks Parents On Children’s Education
The founder, Rhema University, Aba, Dr Emma Okorie, has called on parents of Igbo extraction to invest in education of their children to boost development of their areas.
Okorie made the call during the maiden edition of the Rhema University Education Exhibition in Aba.
He noted that the greatest zone of Nigeria today was the zone with the highest number of educated people and not the one with the highest number of traders without education.
He reminded parents that educated children would in turn take care of them at old age.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ogbonnaya Onwudike, said the institution had concluded plans to start basic medical science programmes in Anatomy, Physiology and Nursing.
He also said that the institution had set up a Continuing Education Programme, adding that it planned to run the Chartered Institute of Bankers Linkage Degree programme.
Onwudike further said that the university had commenced School of Basic Studies to enable students write and obtain Advanced Level General Certificate in Education (GCE) for admission into university.
He urged the students of the institution to imbibe the culture of virtue, honour, truth and integrity to enhance their value and contribution to the development of the society.
One of the participants at the exhibition, Miss Divine Uwaakolam from Living Word Magnet School, said the event had opened her mind to what she needed to know and study at Rhema university.
“With what I have heard here, I know I have been equipped to enter any higher institution in Nigeria,” she said.
Mr Victor Mba, a teacher from Citizens International College, Clifford Aba, said the exhibition had opened the minds of students of the college to requirements they needed to have gained admission to higher institution.
