First Private Varsity In C’ River Takes Off With 100 Students

The first private university in Cross River State, ‘Arthur Jarvis University’, has been declared open with the matriculation of 100 students into the two Faculties of Basic and Applied Sciences and Social Management Sciences.
The university, which is located in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the state is named ‘Prof. Fidelia Ngozi-Obasi Campus.’
Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, who declared the university open, said she was glad to witness the take-off of the first private university in the state.
Oyo-Ita, who commended the proprietor of the university, Mr. Arthur-Jarvis Archibong for establishing the institution, said it would improve the economy of the host community and the state in general.
According to her, investment in education was the surest way to achieving success and breakthrough in any given country.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Julian Osuji, said that the university was founded on strong academic principles by seasoned educationists.
Osuji said that the focus of the university was to groom students to be future ambassadors of the university and the country through moral discipline and academic excellence.
“As we commence proper academic work of this great institution, I wish to advise the students to be dedicated to their studies and moral values. Arthur Jarvis University is a great institution that stands proudly as a citadel of moral discipline and academic excellence.” he said.
Chairman, Board of Trustees of the university, Prof. Bassey Asuquo, said that the university was taking off with 10 departments and 15 programmes.
Asuquo, a former Vice Chancellor of University of Calabar, said that the institution held a great future for the academic upliftment of the state.
Obong of Calabar, His Royal Majesty, Ekpo Okon Abasi-Otu, called on other Cross Riverians to emulate the proprietor of the university by bringing home their investments.
One of the students, Mr. Paul Okon, expressed satisfaction with the facilities and infrastructure in the university.
Okon called on the school management to provide adequate security measure for students in the campus.
