N’Delta Group Lauds Judiciary On Wike’s Victories

The Coalition of Niger Delta Support Group has commended the recent decision of an Abuja High Court declaring as unlawful, the Joint Investigative Panel set up by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to investigate the alleged violence in the December 10, 2016, legislative re-run elections in Rivers State.
In a statement issued by the Secretary General of the coalition, Comrade Depriye Johnny Karimo, the group maintained that the decision of Justice Gabriel Kolawole has vindicated Governor Nyesom Wike, who has maintained from the beginning that the IGP’s panel was politically-motivated, and unknown to the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The group also commended the judiciary for its consistency in dismissing the action of the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, challenging the constitution of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry by Governor Nyesom Wike to investigate the sale of valued assets of the state and the misappropriation of the proceeds by the former governor.
It maintained that the failure of Amaechi’s appeal, after his challenge was dismissed at the High Court, speaks volumes of the incompetence of the action, and a confirmation of the fact that the administration of Governor Nyesom Wike acted within the law.
Observing that the judgment will further help to enrich Nigeria’s democracy, the coalition advised the Ibrahim Idris-led police to be seen to be objective and professional in their duties, and resist being used by external forces to achieve selfish and political goals.
Recalling the elaborate support of Governor Nyesom Wike to the police and other security agencies in Rivers State, the group urged the police authorities to reciprocate the state government’s friendship by maintaining law and order instead of being used to heat up the system and distract the focused administration that is already making a great difference in the state.
The group, however, commended Wike for his exemplary leadership style and manifest good governance as evidenced in innovative projects that dot the landscape of Rivers State, while advising his political opponents and other stakeholders in the Nigerian project to also be guided by the rule of law in all their actions in the interest of peace and sustenance of Nigeria’s democracy.
