Rivers Economic Future Rosy – Tam-George
The Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Dr Austin Tam-George has said that the economic future of Rivers State is rosy and promising.
Speaking with newsmen at a Special Golden Jubilee Dedication and Thanksgiving Service at St Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt, yesterday, Tam-George said the celebration of the Golden anniversary was not all about pomp and pageantry, but an opportunity to consolidate the development of the state for posterity.
In line with this objective, he said the Governor of the State, Chief Nyesom Wike had set up a special “think tank” group known as the Rivers future vision committee to brainstorm on the future development of the state.
The commissioner disclosed that the development mandate of the 151 member committee spans all critical areas of development, and assured that Rivers State will experience unprecedented development in all key sectors in the years ahead.
He emphasized the need to harness the enormous natural and human capital potentials as well as explore the unique advantage of diverse linguistic and cultural values which is the greatest strength of the state.
Tam-George, who described Governor Nyesom Wike as an outstanding leader and great achiever, called on the people of Rivers State to support Governor Wike to succeed.
Earlier in his homily, the Archbishop, Niger Delta Province, Most Reverend Ignatius Kattey, had indulged in a deep reflection of the circumstances that led to creation of Rivers State, among the five 12 states.
He pointed out that since its creation in 1967, Rivers State had continued to play a leading role in the development of the Nigerian nation.
Most Reverend Kattey, who is also the Bishop, Diocese of Niger Delta North, said the period of the Golden anniversary celebration should be used to promote peace, forgiveness and reconciliation in the state.
The renowned cleric, also said the period should be used to give liberty and freedom to some prisoners.
The service was attended by arrays of Rivers dignitaries from political class, traditional institutions, academia, including the first Governor of Rivers State, His Royal Majesty (HRM), King Alfred Diette Spiff, and a former Governor of the State, Dr Peter Odili.
