Monarch Bags Muslim Women Peace Award
A faith-based advocacy group under the auspices of Rivers Muslim Women Peace Initiative, has conferred a Peace Ambassador award on the Eze Oha Evo III, HRM King Leslie Nyebuchi Eke.
Presenting the award to the Evo monarch at his palace in Woji Town, the leader of the group, Khadeejah Pepple said the award was in recognition of his outstanding role in promoting sustainable peace and development in his kingdom.
She described the monarch as a man of exemplary leadership who has remained focused and committed to the service of his people and the state in general since he ascended the throne.
The group’s leader expressed deep appreciation over the peace and tolerance enjoyed by Muslims in Rivers State in spite of the fact that Rivers State is a 100 per cent Christian State.
She said the organisation, as the women wing of the Rivers State Council for Islamic Affairs was concerned about the promotion of peace and religion tolerance in the society and cautioned against the defamation of religion which she identified as the root cause of crisis in the society.
The body also called for the protection of the rights of women and the girl child and advocated for the creation of an Equity Commission in the country that will handle issues of religious rights and promote inter-faith cohesion.
In his remarks, the recipient of the award, HRM, King Leslie Nyebuchi Eke, thanked the body for their initiative and the honour done him.
The royal father who is also the Eze Gbakagbaka and Nyerisi Mbam Oro Evo, described peace as the most precious gift one can give to himself and others.
He said Rivers State is at peace because the Governor of the State, Ezenwo Wike is a man of convicted who is committed to promoting peace and good governance in the state.
He assured that traditional rulers in the state will support the governor by ensuring that sustainable peace reigned in their respective dormain and called for greater cooperation among the various religious bodies and faiths in the country.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
