Illegal Creek Dredging Worries Monarch
The Amanyanabo of Ogu Kingdom in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, His Majesty, King Nicholas Dickson Ibiebele Nimenibo, Loko IX has expressed worry over illegal dredging space of sand at Ikpo-Ama creek in the area.
King Nimenibo, made the expression when the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Mrs Daisy Tamunoene paid him a solidarity visit in his palace at Ogu, Friday.
The Ogu Monarch, who expressed shock and dismay over the illegal dredging said, even the chiefs of the kingdom are not aware that such economic activity is going on in the area.
According to him, those involved in the dredging do so without the knowledge of relevant authorities or without environment impact assessment, it would affect the Ikpo-Ama Community and its environs.
He said, the community would oppose to anything that would negatively affect the lives of the people.
The royal father also directed the Security Committee of the Community to swing into action and find out the people involved, while thanking the local government caretaker committee chairman for her visit and informed him of the ongoing dredging at Ikpo Ama Creek.
Earlier, the CTC Chairman, Mrs Daisy Tamunoene said she was in the palace with her committee members and principal officers on a solidarity visit and to congratulate him on the upliftment of the stool to a first class status.
Mrs Tamunoene alleged that, report reaching her office has it that, there has been illegal dredging activities at Ikpo Ama Creek and that the periodic dredging could submerge the community and appealed to him to use his good office to look into the matter.
She assured of having a cordial working relationship with the monarch in bringing development to the Local Government Area.
