Association Decries High Electricity Tariff
The Nigerian Hoteliers Association in Rivers State, has accused the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED), and the Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC), of disobeying the judgement of a Federal High Court in Lagos which declared the increase of electricity tariff by the Federal Government illegal.
Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the Association, Mr Eugene Nwuzi, in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt recently said it is worrisome that both bodies have gone ahead to charge higher electricity tariff despite the Court of Appeal’s judgement on the matter.
“The NERC should respect court judgement, we are in recession now and their action is affecting business negatively.
“DISCOS have the right to appeal and they did that and it was turned down”, he said.
According to Nwuzi, the judgement directed the parties concerned to stay action because it has already been turned down by the court.
The Association’s chairman further called on President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on PHED and NERC to obey the court order and stop the illegal collection of high electricity tariff.
