The Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo has called on the people of Degema Local Government Area to come out en-masse and vote for PDP candidates in the rerun elections scheduled for December 10, 2016.
Banigo, who made the call while flagging off the PDP campaign for the rerun legislative elections in the area at Usokun, Degema, said the campaign train was at Usokun to remind the people to re-enact the mandate given to the party during the March 19, 2016 rerun elections which were cancelled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The deputy governor said Governor Nyesom Wike and her were thrilled by the overwhelming support the people of Usokun, Degema gave to the PDP in the 2015 general election and March rerun elections, expressing the hope that they would reaffirmed their mandate come December 10, 2016 to ensure that they have representatives who will speak for them at both the State and National Assemblies.
She stated that the PDP decided to flag-off the campaign at Usokun Degema due to its importance in the political equation of Degema Local Government Area, assuring the people of the community of more government presence as the Wike-led administration is passionate about the development of all parts of the state.
Banigo thanked traditional rules, chiefs and the entire people of Usokun Degema for the warm reception accorded her and members of her entourage as well as the massive turn out at the campaign rally, urging them not to be intimidated by either the opposition party or security operatives, rather they should ensure that they protect their votes to count.
Speaking on behalf of leaders of the party in the area, a former commissioner for information in the state, Sir Ene Dateme, enjoined the people of Usokun Degema to come out en-masse and cast their votes for PDP candidates to reconfirm the mandate given to the PDP in the last re-run election.
Dateme opined that when other states of the federation are unable to pay workers’ salaries, Wike has been doing his best to ensure that civil servants are paid as at when due while the six months’ arrears owed pensioners have been cleared as well as the execution of projects, saying that the people of Degema Local Government Area should count themselves lucky for producing the first female deputy governor of the state who is unassuming.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Degema Local Government Area, Pastor Agiobu Victor-Fubara, urged the people of the area to support the Wike-led administration by ensuring that they vote massively for the PDP, assuring them that they would be carried along in the scheme of things.
