Nwogu’s Role In Assembly Excites Constituents
The people of Omuma Local Government Area have expressed excitement at the active participation of Hon Kelechi Nwogu in the effective and efficient running of affairs of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The people, who stated their position in a statement by a group under the auspices of Omuma Voice in Eberi, headquarters of Omuma Local Government Area, said the lawmaker, who is also the chairman of the House Committee on Local Government Affairs, was no doubt, a good ambassador of the area.
They noted that the member representing Omuma constituency at the Assembly has justified, by his outspoken representation, the mandate given to him by the majority of the people.
According to the people, “Before now, we had observed that our man at the House has become the journalists’ delight whose views on issues are always sought. His views are not only sound, appealing but also very persuasive.”
On the events of last Thursday involving protesters at Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, the people recalled that Hon Kelechi Nwogu was a fierce defender of the position of his party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), and frontally supported the House of Assembly’s petitions to the National Assembly and the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris on the activities of some police officers in the state.
“To some, mostly non-OMULGANS, this feat might not be news but sincerely speaking and politics apart, an OMULGA who understands our past position would appreciate God for our present position.
“Certainly, it was not like this. Some of our former representatives were either shy of expressing themselves at plenary, scared of the camera, or were always taken unawares of the agenda of the House for deliberation or just didn’t want to express themselves. They neither spoke nor contributed. The highest they could do was raise their hand when a hand vote was called or join their colleagues to echo “aye” or “nay” when a voice vote was called.
“Not again, Hon Kelechi Nwogu has changed the system. Omuma now has voice, a very persuasive one,” they argued.
While they commended the legislator for his doggedness and activism on the floor of the House, they urged him not to relent in his desire to deliver democracy dividends to the good people of Omuma in particular, and work assiduously to encourage sustainable development, lasting good governance and democracy in Rivers State.
