NDRPP Vows To End Illegal Bunkering
The National Co-ordinator, Niger Delta Riverine Protection Programme (NDRPP), Tikari Danjuma, has said that all forms of illegal bunkering would soon be over in the Niger Delta region.
Danjuma according to a statement by the group stated this at Bomadi, Friday at a reception organised by youths of the nine Niger Delta states to honour him on his appointment as the NDRPP co-ordinator by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He appealed to Niger Delta militants who are involved in bombing and vandalizing oil facilities to stop forthwith and support his group in championing peaceful development in the region.
He also assured that all unauthorized marine patrols in the region water ways would be over.
Danjuma stated that Buhari was commited to finding lasting solution to the crisis in the region as well as initiating developmental projects that would bring rapid development.
According to him, the government plans to engage the youth leaders in sustained dialogue, stressing that by so doing, issues that could snow-ball into ful-blown crisis would be identified earlier and delt with before they unfold.
Also speaking, the Director of operations and communications, NDRPP, Mr Ebegha Terelayefa, said the agency was ready to partner security outfits to ace vie its aim and expressed confidence that the inauguration of the agency would bring about the much desired development in the region.
He urged militants in the region to embrace peace and be part of the dialogue between the Federal Government and leaders in the region, as to ensure that peace regions in the region.
Delta State Programme Officer of NDRPP, Collins Oturubo, said the team was determined to mediate between the militant groups in each state and National Co-ordinator of NDRPP with the view to ending militancy, piracy and illegal bunkering in the region.
According to him, an intelligence structure has been set up to address issue of bunkering militancy, piracy and other vices in the region.
He revealed that a task force would be set up to interface with state patrols under the control of state programme officer.
